All praises and adoration are due to Almighty Allah, Lord of the creatures. We believed that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad (Pbuh) is His slave and messenger. We beseech Him to shower his blessing and mercy on the noble soul of our leader Rosulullah, his wife, his household, his companion and that that follows him till the day of resurrection. We ask Allah for the forgiveness of our soul and evil deeds. Whoever Allah has guided none can misguide him and whoever Allah has misguided none can guide him. We pray to Almighty Allah to count us among those that will receive His favor and blessing and those that will be following the footprints (Quran & Sunnah) of the prophet (Pbuh).

Today many of us don’t take precautions of time. Shaytan has beautify this world for us to the extent that our reasoning faculty only or usually thinks that we are going to live forever not knowing that the destroyer of desires used to wait for our time to elapsed and obey the command of taking our soul. SUBHANALLAH!!!

Oxford learner dictionary defined TIME “as the inevitable progression into the future with the passing of the present event in to the past”. ‘Asr’ means time; succession of age; afternoon or evening. Al-Asr is the time in which the movement of the progeny of the prophet than occur whether good or evil. Allah awarded every being a specified limited period of time. He gave some long time (long life span) and others vice versa. However, the shortness or longevity of time awarded to each person depends on how they utilize it before it elapsed.

The purpose of life/existence is clearly known to those that are knowledgeable that is solely for worshipping of Allah and the importance/value of this time has been stressed. Surely, today we are losing every seconds, minutes, hours, that passes away and the time at our disposal is very short and can never be recaptured. Allah has always stressed the importance of time and its usefulness in many verses of the Quran.

Allah subhanau wa ta’ala says “Indeed, mankind is in loss” (Q106; 2). The human being is in pursuing bargain. We are busy with this materialistic world by gathering wealth, building mansion, energizing for power, and wanting more. Allah also says in the preceding chapter that “Woe to the scorner and mocker; who collects wealth and continuously count it; He think that his wealth will make him immortal; No! He will surely be thrown into crusher (Hellfire)” (104; 1-4). This chapter also cautioned us not to crave for wealth and waste time in the acquisition of worldly riches because all the wealth that people hoard and that they dean to be in their possession or spend against the cause of truth will not be any of avail to them.

The chapter that succeeded this chapter Al-Asr, Allah says “Competition in (worldly) increase divert you; until you visit the grave” (102; 1-2). All this will leads to calamity of this world and hereafter. Mankind have inordinate desires to acquire more and outstrip others in wealth, position and prestige. They will remain blindly engrosses in worldly pursuits until they finds themselves accosted with calamity. This passion of acquiring more knows no limits and leaves him no time to reflect on his state after death and the reckoning of hereafter. Therefore the start of their punishment in this life is obvious. With all this aforementioned verses all those who do not desist from it will lead/live a purposeless life. May Allah safeguard us all.

Allah says “Except those who believe, and do deeds of Righteousness and those who exhort/engage one another in truth and those who advised each other to exercise patience and perseverance” (103; 3).

“And those that believe”. Who are the believers? Allah tell us in the Quran that “O you who believed, fear Allah (59; 18). Those who believe are those that are conscious of Allah. One who believe in Allah must place a barrier between him and hellfire. Allah says “He who follows right way follows it to his own good and he who goes astray, surely, he goes astray to his own loss. And no soul that bears the burden shall bear the burden of another….. (17; 15). Believe in Allah will not come to conclusion without demonstration with the action what you believe in your heart. As Allah says “O you who believe, bow down and prostrate yourself, and worship your lord and do good deeds so that you may attain your goal” (22; 77). This is how you substantiate your beliefs and prove to Allah that you are a true believer.

“Deeds of Righteousness” Allah says “And he who comes before Him as a believer having done righteous deeds, exalted rank are for such people… (20; 75). It further says “Indeed this Quran gives guidance to the path which is the most upright and gives glad tidings of a great rewards to those among its believers who do good deeds (17; 9). By this we come to know the importance of righteous deeds and their connection with faith and that are what shaariah guides us to know. The prophet said “The deeds of a man are based on his intensions”.  Allah says “….and do deeds of righteousness, will have gardens of paradise for an entertainment and an abode” (18; 107). Righteous deeds if done for perception and not because your intentions are pure are considered gravely evil. Righteous deeds must be established with pure intention with this the deeds will purify the soul and accepted by Allah.

“Engaged each other to truth” A Muslim must always be the man of his words by saying the truth always. They must not belied nor mistrust themselves even if they are relating to non-muslim in any matter of the world. The prophet said “Say the truth even if it is bitter”. Allah says “….be careful of Allah and be with the truth ones” (9; 119)…” Do not confound the truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth knowingly” (2; 42). Abdullah bin Mas’ud (rodiallahu anhu) reported: The prophet (solallahu alahi wa salaam) said, “truthfulness leads to righteousness and righteousness leads to paradise. A man will keep speaking the truth and striving to speak the truth until he will be recorded with Allah as siddeeq (speaker of the truth). Lying leads to wickedness and wickedness leads to hell fire. A man will keep telling lie and striving to tell lies until he is recorded with Allah as a liar.” Riyadh as-saliheen Hadith 54. Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen (Rohimahu llah) says in his explanation of this hadith that; the statement ‘you must be truthful’ means adhere to truthfulness where truthfulness is understood as being when the statement exactly matches reality. E.g., If you are asked, “what day is it?” and you say “Today is Wednesday” (and it is actually Wednesday), then this is truthful. However, if you say “Today is Tuesday” then that would be lying. Meanwhile the truthful one will get the good ending, and the liar will be one whose deeds are in vain. ASTAGFRIULLAH!!!

“Advised each other to exercise patience and perseverance.” Patience is enjoined upon believers; “And be patience for your patience is but by Allah” (16; 127). Patience is made a condition of success and prosperity; “….persevere and endure and remain stationed and fear Allah that you may be successful” (3; 200).  People who have patience are the winner in this world and the next, because they have the companionship of Allah. Narrated by Abu Said Al Khudri: …and whoever remain patient, Allah will make him patient. Nobody can be given a blessing better and greater than patience.” Sahih Al Bukhari- Book 24 Hadith 548. ALHAMDULILLAH!!!

There is little time left to free us from the distress and remorse that awaits us if we continues to go after the temptations of worldly joys and forgets thereby our obligations towards other fellow beings. It will not be an easy job to pursue that spiritual goal, as it will require patience and perseverance.

Fellow Muslims, we have to utilize the little time left for us to make up for our loss and deficiencies. Time is running short to realize the divine proximity, and bow before His Majesty in supplication. It is now time for the congregational prayer, to glorify and exalt His name in the company of the faithful. Little time is left to reach the depths of true understanding of divine unity, His uniqueness, His being without associate in His attributes and to realize His Exaltedness. It is high time for the human being by abide by the rule and regulation of the Quran and Sunnah. Time is running out, so we should listen to the message of Allah spoken via the Holy Prophet (Pbuh), and prepare ourselves for the day when we have to stand before Allah and account for our deeds. We pray to Almighty Allah to have mercy on us, forgive us and make Al-Janaatul Fridaus our eternal abode.
